Kinsler to meet with Avila regarding future with Tigers

With the Detroit Tigers eyeing a rebuild after ushering out the Justin Verlander era last month, another veteran will have a meeting with the front office regarding his future with the team.

Ian Kinsler and general manager Al Avila will meet to discuss their offseason plan, the 35-year-old second baseman told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Kinsler has a no-trade clause and also told Morosi that whether he waives that provision is incumbent on his discussion with Avila.

In his fourth season with the Tigers, Kinsler is slashing .236/.315/.405 over 130 games with 19 home runs and 14 stolen bases. Kinsler was traded for Prince Fielder in a surprising blockbuster following the 2013 season.

Heading into the 2018 season, the second baseman is owed $12 million on a team option in the final year of his contract, which would cost the Tigers $5 million to buy out.

The Tigers sit precariously in fourth place in the American League Central, just 1 1/2 games up on the last-place Chicago White Sox.

The four-time All-Star has hit .274/.342/.447 with 231 homers over his 12-year career.
