Mets' Harvey has 'no answers' after latest disappointing outing

Once considered the New York Mets' ace only a few short years ago, Matt Harvey's star has fallen off significantly in recent months.

On Monday in Miami, Harvey's struggles continued when he allowed seven runs on 12 hits in just four-plus innings during the Mets' 13-1 loss to the Marlins. It marked the second time Harvey allowed seven earned runs this month, and continued a downright dreadful run of post-disabled list starts for the 28-year-old.

If you're wondering how Harvey has sunk to this point, you're not alone. The man himself was at a loss for words after Monday's contest when trying to describe his performance of late.

"I don't really know what there is to say except for there is nothing to say. It’s terrible, it's not fun. There is really nothing to say. No reason for questions, there are no answers. There really are none," Harvey told reporters, according to Matt Elhat of NorthJersey.com. "You are going to write what you want to write anyway, and obviously it's deserved. Whatever you want to write, there is nothing to say."

Since returning to active duty on Sept. 2 following over two months on the disabled list with shoulder issues, Harvey owns an inflated 13.14 ERA and has allowed 21 earned runs on 32 hits in just 14 1/3 innings. He's walked nearly as many batters (seven) as he has strikeouts (eight) in that span.

Despite his struggles, Mets fans can expect to see more of Harvey down the stretch as the team closes out what's been a very disappointing season. Manager Terry Collins hinted at Harvey getting more opportunities to right his own ship before 2017 is completed.

"When somebody tells me why he shouldn't (start anymore), we'll consider it," Collins said postgame, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. "What do we have to lose?"
