Astros celebrate division clincher in champagne-soaked clubhouse
The Houston Astros clubbed the Seattle Mariners Sunday by a score of 7-1 to clinch its first division championship since claiming the National League Central crown in 2001. As soon as they hit the clubhouse, the players were showered in champagne.
Lefty starter Dallas Keuchel saluted the team's character, especially in relation to injuries that have tortured the starting rotation all season long.
Justin Verlander made his home debut Sunday, going seven strong innings allowing only one run on three hits while striking out 10. He relished the opportunity to take center stage on the day the team cemented its status as kings of the AL West.
Then there's right fielder Josh Reddick, who donned his bald eagle-emblazoned tank top and American flag Speedo (not pictured) during the festivities. He joked with reporters that he's "tired of being called Colby Rasmus" in the process.
Veteran - and elder statesman - designated hitter Carlos Beltran was more subdued, but equally pleased with the team's success.
Finally, Marwin Gonzalez caught Jose Altuve showing off his dance moves while being doused in champagne, probably because his style is pure fire.
There is still plenty to play for, however, as the Astros only trail the Cleveland Indians by a manageable 1 1/2 games for the best record in the American League.
