The Boston Red Sox are champions of the American League East, and made some history in the process.

With a 6-3 win over the Houston Astros at Fenway Park on Saturday, the Red Sox clinched the division in consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history.

The Red Sox entered the afternoon needing either a win or a New York Yankees loss in order to clinch their ninth AL East title. The Yankees will now host the Minnesota Twins in the American League wild-card game Tuesday.

Boston has one more regular-season game before opening the ALDS against the Astros on Thursday.
