Watch: Mariners, Braves combine for strange run-scoring, inning-ending rundown

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

Cue the Benny Hill theme, kids.

The Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves combined to pull off one heck of an epic and bizarre rundown that likely left more than a few heads spinning after it was all said and done.

Here's a quick rundown, if you will, of what happened: Braves center fielder Ender Inciarte grounded to Mariners shortstop Jean Segura, who threw behind Ozzie Albies at third base. Kyle Seager and Mike Zunino tried to trap Albies, but Seager dropped Zunino's throw, allowing Albies to sneak home with Atlanta's third run of the game.

Then, Mariners first baseman Yonder Alonso - who was covering home plate and wasn't able to tag Albies - caught Inciarte in his own rundown between first and second, and Alonso ended up chasing Inciarte all the way back to second base before tossing to Zunino, who ended the circus and the inning by tagging out Lane Adams, who was trying to advance to third amid all the chaos.

For those scoring at home, that's just your ordinary 6-5-2-5-6-3-2 run-scoring putout - and give Inciarte an infield single for his troubles, plus an error to Seager.

All that was missing here was a rundown cameo from legendary umpire Enrico Palazzo.
