MLB plans to implement league-wide fan code of conduct in 2018

Major League Baseball intends to issue a fan code of conduct across all of its ballparks beginning next season, according to ESPN's Scott Lauber.

The decision to move forward with such an idea comes on the heels of numerous incidents involving fans at ballparks throughout the 2017 season.

One such incident involved Fenway Park fans flinging racial slurs and taunts toward the Baltimore Orioles' Adam Jones in May.

"We are working with the clubs on security and fan conduct initiatives at all of our ballparks," MLB spokesman Michael Teevan said. "We will be issuing a league-wide fan code of conduct for the 2018 season."

Each organization apparently has a code of conduct in place for fans attending games, but the rules vary from team to team, reports Lauber.

MLB hopes to establish a minimum set of behavioral standards across baseball by creating this league-wide policy, according to one of Lauber's sources.
