It appears Derek Jeter is plucking a familiar name for his new team.

As Jeter and the rest of his bidding group patiently wait for their purchase of the Miami Marlins to be approved by the other owners in Major League Baseball, Gary Denbo, the New York Yankees' vice president of player development, has emerged as a top candidate for the Marlins' general manager position once Jeter's group takes over, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports.

Jeter and Denbo have maintained a close relationship throughout the years, Feinsand added. The 56-year-old former hitting coach has been credited in the past for fixing Jeter's swing in 2011 when a calf strain sent the then-Yankees shortstop to the disabled list.

After returning from the injury in early July, Jeter went on to slash .331/.384/.447 in the final 69 games of the season. He also recorded the 3,000th hit of his MLB career - on a home run, no less - in his fifth game back against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 9.

Currently, the Marlins do not employ a bonafide general manager, according to their front-office directory, instead enlisting two assistant general managers in Mike Berger and Brian Chattin, while Michael Hill, the team's president of baseball operations, oversees the club's day-to-day activities.
