The New York Mets are down another starter.

Left-hander Steven Matz was diagnosed with irritation of the ulnar nerve in his left elbow following an MRI and CT scan Monday. He will have his surgery scheduled in the next several days, the club announced.

Matz has battled injury issues this season. He missed the first two months of the season with a strained flexor tendon, and things didn't look right after he allowed seven runs (six earned) in just 3 1/3 innings during his last start Thursday.

The 26-year-old posted was 2-7 with a 6.08 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings this season.

With Matz now sidelined, the Mets have starters Matt Harvey, Seth Lugo, Noah Syndergaard, and Zack Wheeler all on the disabled list.
