Dodgers acquire Granderson from Mets

The seemingly unstoppable Los Angeles Dodgers added another decorated veteran to their roster Friday, acquiring three-time All-Star Curtis Granderson and cash considerations from the New York Mets in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

"A little bittersweet to do that," Granderson told SportsNet New York, according to ESPN, when asked about the pending trade Friday. "But an opportunity to be able to go play in the postseason is exciting."

To make room for Granderson on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated right-hander Dylan Floro for assignment.

While the Mets (53-67) have floundered this season, falling 13 games back of the second National League wild-card spot with a fifth straight loss Friday, Granderson has continued to produce in 2017, putting up an .815 OPS (111 OPS+) with 19 homers, 22 doubles, and four stolen bases through 111 games. He will be a free agent this winter.

With the Dodgers, who improved to a ridiculous 86-34 on Friday with their fifth consecutive victory, Granderson could serve as a left-handed complement to Chris Taylor and Yasiel Puig, or perhaps an alternative to scuffling center fielder Joc Pederson. The 36-year-old has spent time at all three outfield positions this season, starting 56 games in center field, 24 in right, and four in left.

Across parts of 14 seasons in the majors, Granderson, who received MVP votes as recently as 2015, has hit .251/.340/.474 (116 OPS+) with 312 homers, 305 doubles, and 149 steals in 1,760 games split between the Mets, New York Yankees, and Detroit Tigers.
