Indians to be active at deadline, looking for 'the right pitcher'

Cleveland Indians president Chris Antonetti joined Sirius XM Monday morning to discuss the team's plans heading into the July 31 trade deadline.

"We are definitely going to be active at the trade deadline," Antonetti told Sirius XM, adding that the team is targeting "the right pitcher."

Pitching figures to be a relatively hot commodity, especially now that the Los Angeles Dodgers may be without Clayton Kershaw for an extended period and were already reportedly interested in Yu Darvish.

The Indians just recently had to place Boone Logan on the disabled list with a torn lat muscle, which could mean the team is looking at one of the many left-handed relievers on the trade market. Justin Wilson, Brad Hand, and Jerry Blevins appear to be the most available candidates.

Whether a left-handed reliever is actually what Antonetti means by "the right pitcher" is largely conjecture, though.

The Indians have both the fourth-best starting rotation and relief corps according to FanGraphs WAR. Despite those favorable rankings, the Indians hold a very tentative lead on the American League Central, just one-and-a-half games up on the second-place Kansas City Royals.
