Mets' top prospect Amed Rosario hospitalized with stomach issue

Amed Rosario, the New York Mets' top prospect and No. 3 overall in MLB, was hospitalized on Saturday after missing five straight games with a stomach illness, his Triple-A manager Pedro Lopez told Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"They took him to the ER just to check and see if everything was good," Lopez said. "Right now we're just waiting."

Rosario has apparently been dealing with an upset stomach for nearly two weeks as Lopez revealed the young shortstop began complaining of discomfort after rejoining the Las Vegas 51s following the Futures showcase contest earlier this month.

"When he flew from the Futures game (in Miami) to Tacoma (on July 10) for the All-Star Game in Tacoma, he said he was feeling a little upset, too, with his stomach," Lopez said. "We don't know whether it's from flying or the hours or whatever so we don't know."

Despite being one of the youngest players on Las Vegas' roster, the 21-year-old Rosario has been one of the team's best hitters this season, slashing .330/.368/.473 with seven home runs and seven triples in 364 at-bats in Triple-A.

The Mets were reportedly close to calling him up to the big leagues earlier this month, though his promotion was apparently stalled by the club not wanting to upset infielder Asdrubal Cabrera.
