Report: Stanton trade unlikely with Marlins in state of flux

While the thought of Giancarlo Stanton pairing up with Aaron Judge in New York is certainly fun to imagine, it doesn't appear the Miami Marlins slugger is going anywhere anytime soon.

Despite recent reports linking the Yankees and Stanton through trade, it's all but guaranteed the 27-year-old remains in Miami with the organization's future still very much up in the air, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The sale of the Marlins has been an ongoing dilemma all season with several bidding groups including, but not limited to, Derek Jeter, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, and Jorge Mas all associated with the club.

The Yankees, meanwhile, reached out to the Marlins several weeks ago, though talks didn't gain much traction. There's also nothing to suggest both clubs have had recent discussions about Stanton, Heyman notes.

Members involved with the Marlins believe that extensive trade talks for the slugger will heat up in the offseason once new owners are in place. It could also provide a clearer picture on the future of several core members of the team, including Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna, Justin Bour, and J.T. Realmuto.

Stanton, whose deal includes a full no-trade clause, has $77 million guaranteed until 2020 when he can decide to opt out.

If he exercises his $26-million player option that season, he will be owed $208 million until 2027. In 2028, the final year of his deal, the Marlins have a $25-million team option and could decide to buy him out for $10 million.
