As Jaime Garcia prepared for what might be his last start with the Atlanta Braves on Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team was still discussing the left-handed starter with six teams, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Just over 24 hours earlier, it seemed inevitable that Garcia would wind up on the Minnesota Twins, after a report emerged that the two teams were finalizing a deal. However, that seems to have fallen through, and the Braves are exploring other options.
A deal looked so imminent, in fact, that the Braves scratched Aaron Blair from his start Thursday with Triple-A Gwinnett so he could start in Garcia's place Friday in the event of a trade. Blair is with the team in Los Angeles, but, ultimately, no roster move was made.
Garcia owned a 4.33 ERA and 4.24 FIP heading into Friday's game. He was acquired by the Braves in December, and the 31-year-old is eligible to become a free agent this offseason.
The second-place Braves could still be looking to stay in the postseason chase, but starting a pitcher with a storied injury history while the team may be looking to trade him is an interesting development.
