After putting together one of the best seasons by a pitcher in the American League, 2017 has been anything but spectacular for Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez, who is battling recurring blister issues on his throwing hand.

The 25-year-old has been on the disabled list three separate times and could be set for a fourth trip after he visits a hand specialist in Cleveland on Friday, according to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm.

Sanchez was removed from his last start against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Wednesday after developing a small blister on his right finger, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told reporters.

"It just started forming mid-way through the game, and I kept going and it got worse," Sanchez told Sportsnet's Arash Madani after the start. "I think the right thing to do was to kind of catch it before things got worse."

Sanchez has been limited to eight starts this season, amassing 36 innings with a 4.25 ERA, while his walk rate has soared to 5.0 BB/9 and his strikeouts dropped from 7.5 SO/9 to 6.0 SO/9.
