Look: Cubs' Maddon embraces the suck with newest T-shirt

Matt Marton / USA TODAY Sports

A little over one year ago, as the Chicago Cubs were shaping up for what would become a memorable 2016 season, manager Joe Maddon kept his men loose with T-shirts that showed off his new motto: "Try not to suck."

The shirts worked, as in winning the World Series, the Cubs certainly did not suck in 2016.

But now it's 2017, and this year's Cubs are struggling to stay above .500 in the tight NL Central - and with tension mounting around the club following now-DFA'd catcher Miguel Montero's heated words toward Jake Arrieta after Tuesday's loss, something had to be done. So Maddon, naturally, dipped into his closet once again to motivate his team, and displayed his newest T-shirt - with the slogan "Embrace the suck" - for reporters in Washington on Wednesday.

The Cubs embraced the suck for 108 years before finally winning it all in 2016, so why not try it again this year? Couldn't hurt.
