Melancon slams report suggesting tension with Giants' teammates

Earlier on Monday, a report surfaced indicating that San Francisco Giants closer Mark Melancon hasn't entirely endeared himself to his teammates during his first season by the Bay.

According to a story from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, Melancon rubbed teammates the wrong way when he canceled the bullpen's 3:30 p.m. stretching routine before night games.

Melancon, however, took issue with the story, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic.

"We're talking about stretching? Stretching?" Melancon said, adding that management came to the decision to end the stretch session, and that it wasn't simply his call.

Instead, Melancon said his issues on the mound have been the main problem.

"I haven't pitched well and that's first and foremost," he said. "We should blame it on that."

Manager Bruce Bochy dismissed the story, though he used slightly more creative and colorful language.

"It's a non-story ... like pole vaulting over mouse turds," Bochy said to NBC Sports' Amy Gutierrez. "Relievers change their routine. I have no issue with the bullpen changing stretch time. ... Mark has been great."

Well, okay then.
