Mets reward Tim Tebow with promotion to High-A
With pundits awaiting the possibility of a promotion for New York Mets top prospect Amed Rosario, general manager Sandy Alderson instead announced that Tim Tebow would be promoted to High-A on Sunday.
Tebow - who will suit up for the St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League the next time he plays - has managed a .222/.311/.340 slash line for the Columbia Fireflies over 241 plate appearances in his first taste of Class-A baseball.
The 29-year-old Tebow was six years older than the next oldest player on the Fireflies' roster and six of his teammates with at least 100 plate appearances were posting a higher OPS.
"Something interesting about (Tebow) is that his OPS is, like, twice as high at home as it has been on the road," Alderson told reporters in a press scrum Sunday, while forfeiting that the team is "not really sure how to interpret that."
"It's not like he's tearing up the league," Alderson continued. "But at the same time, all of the indications are positive."
