Watch: Yolmer Sanchez awarded bizarre HR at Tropicana Field
Andy Marlin / USA TODAY Sports
Um, sure.
Chicago White Sox second baseman Yolmer Sanchez led off Tuesday's game against Chris Archer and the Tampa Bay Rays with a fly ball that took a left turn at Albuquerque, landed in center field, and was then called a home run.
The ball didn't travel too high, and didn't visibly connect with one of Tropicana Field's patented catwalks, but seemed to redirect in midair. Or, Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier simply overran it.
Either way, Sanchez was awarded a home run - even after replay - though he only managed to reach third base during the actual play.
