Brett Lawrie's attempt at a major-league comeback took a strange detour Saturday.
With National Ketchup Day approaching on June 5, the 27-year-old free-agent infielder and former Blue Jay hosted a Pringles Ketchup Slippery Slide event in Toronto, promoting the brand's new ketchup chips - a flavor common in Canada, but not in the U.S.
People suited up in coveralls, helmets, and goggles in order to hurl themselves down a 50-foot slippery slide covered in the condiment.
The event is attempting to set a world record for "The Most Canadians to Slip Down a Ketchup Slippery Slide in One Hour," according to Kellogg Canada.
It remains to be seen if Lawrie himself, an avowed ketchup chip enthusiast, will risk injury by attempting a ketchup slide.
