Grandson asked if Yost was 'in timeout' following ejection

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost reached a dubious milestone Saturday, getting ejected for the 40th time in his career after arguing a ruling on a check-swing attempt by Eric Hosmer in the first inning at Progressive Field.

Now, being all of 3 years old, Yost's toddler grandson, Jordan, has witnessed only a handful of those ejections, so the managerial progeny decided to call Yost up after he got the heave-ho to get some clarification on the situation.

"I've mellowed in my years," Yost told MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan. "What was funny is, I was sitting up here (in the clubhouse) for 10 minutes, my phone rings, and it was my wife. But it wasn't my wife, it was my 3-year-old grandson Jordan."

Jordan: "Granddaddy, did you get thrown out of the game?"

Yost: "Yeah Jordan, yeah I got thrown out of the game."

Jordan: "Why?"

Yost: "Because I yelled at the umpire."

Jordan: "Do you have to go to timeout now?"

Yost: "Yes, granddaddy is in timeout."

The Royals weren't too fazed with their manager in timeout, incidentally, as a three-run outburst off Danny Salazar in the sixth inning propelled Kansas City to a 5-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians, giving them consecutive wins for the first time since rattling off four in a row May 11-14.
