Donaldson, Tulowitzki combine for 3 Ks, no hits in rehab start

The Dunedin Blue Jays' lineup featured an MVP and a five-time All-Star during Monday's game against the Fort Myers Miracles, but the pair of hitters with the most major-league experience were barely able to reach base.

Troy Tulowitzki was joined by Josh Donaldson, who began his rehab assignment, and the superstars combined to go 0-for-4 at the plate with Tulowitzki earning a walk and Donaldson getting hit by a pitch.

The pair reached base in the bottom of the first inning and put runners on first and second for Cavan Biggio - son of Hall-of-Famer Craig Biggio - but he promptly grounded into an inning-ending double play.

In the third inning, Miracles starter David Fischer would catch Donaldson looking at third strike, and retire Tulowitzki on a line out to lead off the fourth.

Fischer would wind up in a jam in the fifth inning though, walking Dunedin's leadoff hitter and Blue Jays catching prospect Max Pentecost with the bases loaded.

That brought Donaldson to the plate, forcing the Miracles to bring in Michael Theofanopoulos, who struck out both the 2015 AL MVP and Tulowitzki to leave the bases loaded - not a bad thing to put on his resume.

Obviously, this is just a stop on the path to wellness for the two key Blue Jays bats. Donaldson is nursing a calf injury that has held him out of major-league action since April 13. Meanwhile, Tulowitzki has been sidelined since April 21 with a hamstring injury.
