Tigers' Ausmus: If Miggy were stealing signs, he wouldn't be blatant about it

Appearing in his first game in a week, beleaguered Texas Rangers reliever Sam Dyson took issue with Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera, who had just reached second base with a double.

Dyson was not simply peeved about allowing an extra-base hit to the slugger, but thought Cabrera was stealing signs, according to the Detroit Free Press' Chris Solari.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus wasn't buying the accusation.

"Miggy wasn't stealing signs. If he was stealing signs, he certainly wouldn't be that blatant about it," Ausmus said. "Miggy was just trying to let the bench know that (Dyson) has a change-up - that was all it was. It was a misunderstanding. He wasn't stealing signs. I just think Dyson, for some reason, thought he was."

Cabrera's double capped a three-hit night, though Dyson's jawing seems to have dampened his usual jovial spirit a tad.

This is not the first time Dyson has had issues with opposing batters. He was on the unfortunate receiving end of Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista's epic bat flip-inducing home run during the 2015 ALCS. He was not impressed with Bautista.

It's mostly moot, as the Rangers went on to win, and Dyson didn't allow a run over his 1 2/3 innings Sunday night, lowering his season ERA to 9.42 in the process.
