The New York Mets have reportedly discussed promoting Tim Tebow to a higher minor-league level, and the quarterback-turned-ballplayer certainly bolstered his case Sunday.
Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner boosting attendance for the Low-A Columbia Fireflies by more than 30 percent, stroked an opposite-field solo shot Sunday at Spirit Communications Park, snapping a 31-game homer drought for the 29-year-old.
Almost two months into his first full season as a professional baseball player, Tebow owns a .688 OPS with three homers and 37 strikeouts in 35 games in the South Atlantic League, where the average position player is 21.4 years old.
