Watch: Harper caps 2-homer game with 3-run walk-off
Geoff Burke / USA TODAY Sports
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, and down to their last out, the Washington Nationals had the right man at the plate in Bryce Harper, who'd already hit a home run earlier in the game.
With two men on, Philadelphia Phillies reliever Joaquin Benoit worked Harper to a full count before the Nats right fielder deposited a three-run shot into the stands, 424 feet away from home plate at a 109.3-mph exit velocity.
Benoit had just usurped Philadelphia's closing duties from Jeanmar Gomez, but the Phillies' bullpen troubles look unsolved after Sunday's affair.
The Nationals improved to 7-5 with the victory, and are tied with the Miami Marlins for the NL East lead.
