Mets' Collins jests he's 'got the FBI looking for the real Jose Reyes'
Despite hanging on to beat the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, infielder Jose Reyes' struggles at the plate continued, with the 33-year-old in the midst of a 1-27 slump.
Manager Terry Collins appears ready to send out a search party in an attempt to recapture the veteran's production, saying, "I've got the FBI looking for the real Jose Reyes right now," according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
The team's current leadoff man, Reyes has produced everything you don't want at the top of your order. Since his return to the Mets last season, he's produced a combined .248/.307/.410 with an 18.5 strikeout percentage.
The club doesn't have much in terms of depth at the position, so expect Collins to provide Reyes with the opportunity to break out of his slump. If not, let's hope the FBI find out what's wrong.
Hey, Terry Collins, if you need a third baseman, I hear Tim Tebow is raking in the minors.
