Bees swarmed the field Thursday at the Peoria Sports Complex while the San Diego Padres hosted the Colorado Rockies in their final spring contests, which caused everyone in the infield - including the umpire - to hit the deck.
Whatever the Padres did to anger the bees remains uncertain, but it isn't the franchise's first run-in with the insect. During the ninth inning against the Houston Astros in 2009, bees swarmed the field to delay a regular-season game at Petco Park.
Who knows if lying down is a viable strategy for avoiding bees, but a bunch of guys going prone on the field sure makes for some great images.
