Watch: Dominicans open scoring with 2-run 1st inning
Logan Bowles / USA TODAY Sports
After being shut out through the first five innings of its first-round matchup with the United States, the Dominican Republic wasted no time getting on the board in the rematch.
With Manny Machado standing at first base courtesy a throwing error, Robinson Cano launched a double to left field off U.S. starter Danny Duffy to give the Dominicans an early 1-0 lead.
Carlos Santana would follow two batters later with an RBI single to cash in Cano to double the lead.
The Dominicans almost had a third run, but Nelson Cruz was thrown out at the plate on a heads-up play by United States shortstop Brandon Crawford.
