Chicago Cubs star Kris Bryant pulled one over on the Mesa Community College baseball team last spring when he, posing as a transfer student named Roy Nabryt, showed up at batting practice and looked poised to take playing time away from some of the regulars.
This spring, however, the prankster/reigning National League MVP got himself pranked by a true legend, as Bryant - followed around by a camera crew ostensibly filming his batting practice regimen - ended up taking live BP with the obnoxious audio guy after his pitcher was forced to take off early.
Bryant, who was reluctant to step in against a non-professional, didn't know, obviously, that the audio guy was actually Hall-of-Famer Greg Maddux in disguise.
"Just don't hit me," a skeptical Bryant said as the sound guy got loose.
It didn't take long, however, for Bryant to warm up to the pudgy, long-haired stand-in, who had no problem pointing out when Bryant took a strike.
"This sound guy's got a good curveball," an incredulous Bryant said. "What is this? This is pretty good."
Who says spring training is boring?
