Report: Twins talks with Morneau fizzled after lack of roster space

The Minnesota Twins discussed bringing back former American League MVP Justin Morneau, but that appears to be where the road ended.

The two sides have reportedly had a conversation regarding a potential reunion, according to the Star Tribune's La Velle Neal, but it was determined that there wasn't enough room on the roster to get him feasible at-bats.

As it stands, the club has a lot of players at both first base and DH. Joe Mauer, Byung Ho Park, and Kennys Vargas are all able to play first base, while Miguel Sano gets chances at DH as well.

Morneau missed the first four months of the 2016 season as he recovered from elbow surgery. Upon his return, he inked a one-year deal with the Chicago White Sox, slashing .261/.303/.429 with six homers and 14 doubles in just 58 games.

It's unclear where Morneau will play this season, but with plans to appear in the World Baseball Classic for Team Canada, by all indications, he's trying to return for a 15th major-league season.
