Report: Dodgers closing in on multi-year deal with Hill
The Los Angeles Dodgers front office appears set to make its first major addition of the offseason as the club is reportedly closing in on a multi-year deal with free-agent starter Rich Hill, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
The news follows an earlier report in which one rival team believed the left-hander was returning to the Dodgers on a three-year contract in the range of $40 million.
While a deal is believed to be close, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reported that it's unlikely to be finalized by the end of Saturday.
Hill is the top starter on the free-agent market and has received strong interest from the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, and Dodgers.
Acquired by the Dodgers at the non-waiver trade deadline last August, the 36-year-old Hill went 3-2 with a 1.83 ERA over six starts. He missed almost a month with a reoccurring blister on his pitching hand.
The Dodgers were in need of another starter this winter with both Scott Kazmir and Brandon McCarthy coming off injury-shortened seasons.
