As selected by the managers and various coaches in each league, the 2016 Rawlings Gold Glove recipients were recognized Tuesday night.
The San Francisco Giants led the way with a sweep of the awards in each category a Giants players was a finalist for. Buster Posey dethroned Yadier Molina, who had an eight-year run as the top catcher in the National League. Double-play partners Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik took home NL shortstop and second base honors, respectively.
Now that the dust has settled, the nine Gold Glove winners from each league will set their sights on the Platinum Glove, which is awarded to the top two defensive players in Major League Baseball, as determined by both fan voting and a sabermetric component.
