Fan seeks forgiveness for reliever Jose Mesa

All will be forgotten if the Cleveland Indians win the World Series, at least, Jose Mesa must hope so.

Mesa's blown save led to the Indians losing the 1997 World Series to the Florida Marlins in Game 7 - which also happens to be Cleveland's last appearance in the Fall Classic. Now one fan thinks it's time to let go of the past, and what better way to forgive and forget than with the team winning it all in Game 6 at Progressive Field on Tuesday.

With the Indians clinging to a one run lead, Mesa entered the game in the bottom of the ninth and allowed two hits, eventually giving up an RBI sac fly to Craig Counsell which tied the game. Two innings later, after Mesa was pulled from the game, the Marlins prevailed, winning on a walk-off hit from Edgar Renteria.

The blown save led to some bad blood with teammate Omar Vizquel, who criticized Mesa in his autobiography "Omar! My Life On and Off the Field," claiming the pitcher showed a lack of passion in Game 7.

All that can change with an Indians win Tuesday, as the team looks to take home their first World Series in over 60 years.
