Back in September, after Carlos Carrasco broke his finger, longtime Cleveland Indians beat reporter Paul Hoynes opined that the club had been "eliminated from serious postseason advancement," and even agreed to jump into Lake Erie if the Indians made the World Series.
On Tuesday morning, as the Indians prepared to host the Chicago Cubs at Progressive Field for Game 1 of the World Series, Hoynsie went for a swim.
"I just hope Captain Ahab isn't out there, looking to harpoon the great white whale," he joked before plunging into the lake.
"The debt is paid, hopefully," he said afterward, laughing.
