It was worth the wait.
Game 5 of the National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals lasted 4 hours and 32 minutes, making it the longest nine-inning postseason game in MLB history.
When the dust settled, the Dodgers punched their ticket to the NLCS with a 4-3 win, as the Nationals left the tying and go-ahead runs at second and first, respectively.
Here's how it all went down:
| Statistic | Dodgers | Nationals |
|---|---|---|
| Total Substitutions | 9 | 12 |
| Total Players Used | 19 | 22 |
| Pitchers Used | 6 | 7 |
| Position Players Used | 13 | 14 |
| Pitches Thrown | 174 | 149 |
No one could've predicted that Clayton Kershaw, who pitched two days earlier, would come in to pitch in the ninth.
Not only that, but Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen threw a career-high 51 pitches.
