Watch: Cueto's giant bubble explodes in face
Noted strikeout - and bubblegum - artist Johnny Cueto is among several slumping pitchers looking to put August behind him.
Small sample size caveats apply, but the Giants ace entered September on the heels of his worst month since arriving in San Francisco, allowing 18 runs in 37 innings as his club fights to stay in the NL West race.
Apparently, Cueto's ERA isn't the only thing imploding.
The gum-chewing specialist suffered some blowback during the ninth inning of Wednesday's finale against Arizona when teammate Denard Span distracted the excitable pitcher mid-bubble.
At this point, the Giants are probably relying on any sort of divine intervention to help stop their skid, as the wild-card leaders begin the final month of the season having lost 16 of 27 games in August.
