Tigers activate Iglesias, designate Presley for assignment
DETROIT (AP) The Tigers activated shortstop Jose Iglesias from the 15-day disabled list before Saturday's game.
Iglesias has not played since Aug. 12 due to a left hamstring strain. To make room on the 25-man roster for Iglesias, the Tigers designated the contract of outfielder Alex Presley for assignment.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus had Iglesias in Saturday night's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels, batting ninth. In four rehabilitation games with Triple-A Toledo, Iglesias batted .375 with two runs scored, a double, a home run and an RBI. Iglesias' return to the lineup meant Erick Aybar is on the bench for now.
Although Aybar has played just one major-league game at third base, he could see some time there as Nick Castellanos is on the DL with a fracture in his left hand. Casey McGehee has played third base in Castellanos' absence.
The Tigers acquired Aybar from the Atlanta Braves on Aug. 16 in exchange for infielder Mike Aviles and minor-league catcher Kade Scivicque.
