You may think your team's manager is crazy, but he doesn't hold a candle to Chicago Cubs skipper Joe Maddon.
Known for his tactical ingenuity, Maddon decided to use Travis Wood for two separate pitching appearances in Sunday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners, bringing the left-hander out of the bullpen in the sixth, sending him out to left field for an eventful inning after he recorded three outs, then summoning him back to the mound again to record the final out of the eighth. (He picked off Shawn O'Malley to end the frame.)
Wood was lifted for pinch-hitter Javier Baez in the bottom of the eighth, but with the versatility he demonstrated Sunday, there's a non-zero chance he spends the rest of the game as the Wrigley Field public address announcer, or something.
