Mets' Bartolo Colon: Lays egg in Friday's loss to Rockies
Colon (9-6) tossed five innings, allowing five runs, seven hits and one walk while striking out four in Saturday's loss to the Rockies.
Analysis:
Coming off one of his best performances of the year in his last start against the Cardinals (one earned run in seven innings), Colon laid a dud against a Rockies team that has given him fits throughout the big righty's career. It looked as if he was locked in after not allowing a hit through 3.1 innings, but things came unhinged when he gave up three runs in a blink of an eye during the fourth. After a fantastic June (1.67 ERA in five starts), Colon finished up July with a 5.51 ERA over six starts, his worst ERA of any month this season. He'll look to rebound Thursday when he makes his next start at Yankee Stadium.
