Giants' Jeff Samardzija: Struggles continue Sunday despite extra day of rest
Samardzija (9-6) surrendered five runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings Sunday. He walked one and struck out three in a loss to the Yankees.
Analysis:
Samardzija's start was pushed back one day so that the Giants could reconfigure their rotation. The extra rest did not help him, as the Yankees knocked him out of the contest in the sixth inning. After getting off to a strong start with his new club, Samardzija has sputtered in the months of June and July, seeing his ERA rise to 4.22 in the process. The long ball has been his downfall, as he's surrendered 14 homers over his last nine starts. Those in mixed leagues should consider benching Samardzija in his next start against the Nationals on Friday and possibly until he turns in a quality start.
