Anthony Rendon made sure to let Bob Davidson know what he thought of his strike zone Wednesday. Davidson, the home-plate umpire for the Cubs-Nationals series finale, happily returned the favor.
Davidson tossed Rendon after the Nationals third baseman argued back-to-back strike calls during his 12th-inning at-bat, a plate appearance which began with three balls in his favor. After Cubs pitcher Trevor Cahill battled back and located a fastball down in the zone for a called strike three, Rendon had words for Davidson, which triggered his ejection as he walked back to the dugout.
What ensued can only be retold by a lip reader, though Davidson left little to the imagination.
