Athletics' R.J. Alvarez: Plans to throw rehab game
Alvarez (elbow) is scheduled to throw his first rehab game with Class-A Stockton June 3 or 4, John Hickey of Bay Area News Group reports.
Analysis:
Alvarez had surgery this spring that removed bone chips in his elbow and was placed on the 60-day DL in early April. He's been making steady progress recently as he's thrown several bullpen sessions including one Saturday morning. The next step will be a rehab game with Class-A Stockton and then possibly a couple more tune ups at the Double-A or Triple-A level. If all goes well in his rehab outings, it's likely the 24-year-old could return to Oakland's bullpen sometime in June.
