MLB investigating botched anthem on Padres Pride Night
MLB is launching an investigation into whether a woman's voice was intentionally played over a gay men's chorus at a San Diego Padres game.
The Padres invited the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" on Saturday, but as they were set to sing, a recording of a woman played alongside them.
"We are pleased that Major League Baseball is going to look into this issue and we will cooperate fully," Padres president Mike Dee told USA TODAY's Bob Nightengale. "Based on our internal investigation, and our decisive actions yesterday, we are eager for all the facts surrounding this unfortunate incident to come forward."
The club apologized shortly after the event, saying the third-party contractor responsible for the flap was fired, and that a team employee was disciplined.
San Diego also noted that Matt Coy, the club's senior director of game-day presentation, wasn't working the game after getting in a motorcycle accident.
