Nationals' Gio Gonzalez: Throws six shutout in win over Royals
Gonzalez (2-1) struck out one, walked two and allowed just four hits over six shutout innings in Monday's win over the Royals.
Analysis:
Gonzalez can do no wrong thus far in 2016, as his ERA dropped to 1.15 through five starts. He drew just six swinging strikes against the notoriously contact-heavy Royals, but they weren't able to do anything with the contact they made. The defending champs managed just one line drive against Gonzalez and couldn't get any of their 10 fly balls to leave the yard -- two of them didn't even leave the infield. Even if Gonzalez's .233 BABIP is bound to come up, his peripherals are sharp, including a 26:9 K:BB and just one home run allowed in 31.1 innings.
