Oakland Athletics outfielder Sam Fuld will miss the remainder of the season as he undergoes surgery in May to repair his rotator cuff, he announced Friday.
In 10 spring games, Fuld batted .417/.517/.625 with one home run and one triple. He was placed on the disabled list just prior to the start of the season.
Fuld is out of options, and with a .227 career batting average, the A's valued his defense enough to give him a shot, signing him to a one-year, $1.9-million deal in February.
