Choo (calf) was placed on the 15-day DL prior to Sunday's game against the Angels, MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports.
Analysis:
The DL move was fully expected after the Rangers announced earlier in the day that Choo would be sidelined for four-to-six weeks with a Grade 2 right calf strain. Fortunately for the Rangers, top prospect Nomar Mazara, who was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, represents a high-upside replacement for Choo, and was immediately inserted into the lineup as the No. 2 hitter Sunday. Mazara should have every opportunity to cement himself as a regular during Choo's absence, and could end up sticking around even after Choo returns if he excels right away.
