 The Pirates and Reds have split the first six meetings this season, including the two games in Cincinnati in mid-August. Cincinnati has outscored Pittsburgh, 29-21, in the six games despite the even record, with the Pirates last two wins over the Reds coming by one run.

 Cincinnati beat the Cardinals, 10-5, on Sunday in St. Louis, continuing a trend of alternating wins and losses over the last six games. The Reds have just two winning streaks over their last 32 games, a three-game run on August 27-28 (including a doubleheader sweep over Milwaukee) and wins over the Cardinals and Pirates on September 2 and 4.

 The Pirates have dropped four straight games after being swept in Kansas City over the weekend. They've been outscored, 30-8, over those four games, with the -22 run differential their worst over a four-game span since September 18-21 last season (also -22).

 Ke'Bryan Hayes has a .344/.400/.594 slash line since making his MLB debut on September 1. His .994 OPS this month ranks first among National League rookies, and third among MLB rookies (minimum 30 PA).

 Eugenio Suarez recorded his first career three-homer game against Pittsburgh on September 5. He leads all players with 19 home runs versus the Pirates since the start of the 2015 season; his 61 RBI against them over that span ranks second to the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo (71).

If carryover from a team's previous game is a real thing, the Pittsburgh Pirates will be lugging some heavy baggage into their doubleheader Monday against the Reds in Cincinnati.
The Pirates (14-30) not only have lost four straight to reach the 30-loss mark in this 60-game season, but also got boonswaggled Sunday in getting swept by the Royals in Kansas City.

Pirates, Reds gear up for doubleheader

CINCINNATI (AP)  Mike Moustakas hit a big three-run homer in the fifth inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-4 on Monday night for a doubleheader sweep.
Moustakas drove in Shogo Akiyama and Eugenio Suarez with a two-out shot to center off Nik Turley (0-2). Pittsburgh had just taken a 4-3 lead on rookie Ke'Bryan Hayes' two-run shot with two out in the top half of the inning.
