 The Cubs lost two of their three games against the Tigers in their most recent series and are 5-9 dating back to August 14. Still, they have a 3.0-game lead in the NL Central and have been in first place an MLB-best 34 days.

 Cincinnati won two in a row after dropping four straight, scoring 12 runs in the two wins and six runs in the four losses. The Reds have a 1.25 ERA in their 13 wins this season but a 5.79 ERA in their 17 losses, the third-largest difference (4.54) in MLB.

 The Cubs took two of three games against the Reds at Great American Ball Park from July 27-29, scoring at least seven runs in all three games. The Cubs have not scored at least seven runs in four straight games against the Reds since August 2017.

 In six starts this season, Yu Darvish has compiled a 1.70 ERA, striking out 44 while walking just six (7.3 K/BB ratio). He is the first Cub with a sub-2.00 ERA and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 7.0 or higher in his first six starts of the season since Dennis Eckersley in 1985 (1.98 ERA, 12.0 K/BB).

 Jesse Winker is 5-for-7 with two home runs in his last two games. His 1.130 OPS is the highest by a Red in his first 30 games of the season since David Ross, the Cubs' current manager, in 2006 (1.217).

 Both teams have not had much production out of the leadoff spot -- Chicago's leadoff hitters are batting .202 this season, fourth worst in MLB, while Cincinnati's leadoff men are hitting .167, worst in baseball.

CINCINNATI (AP)  Nick Castellanos raced home on Craig Kimbrel's third wild pitch of the seventh inning, and the Cincinnati Reds avoided a doubleheader sweep by topping the Chicago Cubs 6-5 on Saturday night.
Cincinnati took advantage of another rough performance by Kimbrel (0-1), who got off to a tough start this year before stringing together five consecutive scoreless appearances. The right-hander threw half of his 22 pitches for strikes in his shaky outing against the Reds.
