 The Padres have clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2006. San Diego will be looking for its first playoff series win since 1998. San Diego has lost five of its last seven games after winning a season-best eight straight games.

 The Giants have won nine of their last 11 games at Oracle Park, outscoring their opponents by 25 runs and outhitting them by 26 hits. San Francisco is 28-28, and has been at .500 at 27-27, 26-26, 25-25, 24-24, 23-23 and 21-21 this month.

 The Padres have taken five of the first six games this season against the Giants, outscoring them 38-19. Earlier this month in San Diego, the Padres swept three games from the Giants, outscoring them 15-2.

 Manny Machado (.313, 16 HR, 47 RBI) is one of just three players currently leading his team in the triple-crown categories. The other two are Cleveland's Jose Ramirez (.292, 17, 46) and Washington's Juan Soto (.351, 13, 37).

 Brandon Belt's .400 batting average at home is second-best in the majors (DJ LeMahieu, NYY -- .412) and the best in the National League (minimum 75 PA at home). Seven of Belt's nine home runs have come at Oracle Park.

 The Padres are 9-2 in Dinelson Lamet starts this season and have won the last six. Lamet has pitched 6+ IP, allowed 1 R or fewer and K'd 10+ men in three straight starts. He is the only MLB pitcher with three consecutive starts like this in 2020, and only the second Padre ever to do so (Clay Kirby, 1971 -- 3 straight).

The Giants (29-30) lost control of their own playoff destiny when a 6-2 loss to the Padres on Saturday, combined with Milwaukee's 3-0 win over St. Louis, allowed the Brewers (29-30) to draw even in the duel for the NL's second wild-card spot.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)  The Giants will look back at several missed chances over the final week that cost them a playoff berth that was right there for the taking.
San Francisco had its postseason hopes dashed on the final day of the regular season, losing 5-4 to the playoff-bound San Diego Padres on Sunday.
