 Seattle and Oakland play a four-game series to wrap up their regular seasons, with the Athletics holding a 4-2 advantage in the season series. The A's won last year's season series 10-9, their first time getting the best of the Mariners since 2012.

 The A's dropped two of three in Dodger Stadium earlier this week but have already clinched the AL West title. Oakland has been in first place of its division, including ties, for 61 days this season, the second most in baseball (ChC, 62).

 The Mariners took two of three against Houston, allowing a total of three runs in their two wins and allowing six runs in their loss. Seattle has won six straight games when holding its opponent to five runs or less, and has lost 16 straight games when allowing more than five runs.

 Jake Lamb is batting .273 with two home runs and seven RBI in nine games since being signed by the A's. Lamb had only two home runs in his last 63 games with the Diamondbacks before he was released on Sept. 12.

 In Kyle Lewis' first 28 games of the season, he was batting .373 with a 1.031 OPS. In his last 27 games (since Aug. 23), Lewis has a .628 OPS while batting .172, including a .115 average with a runner in scoring position.

 Matt Olson is 1-for-24 (.042) in his last seven games against the Mariners. Olson's career .685 OPS against Seattle is his lowest against any opponent he has played at least 10 times.

A's face Mariners, looking for wave of momentum into playoffs

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)  The Oakland Athletics sure would like to be swinging better in late September with the playoffs fast approaching.
Robbie Grossman provided a pair of home runs in his first career multi-homer game for the AL West champions yet again the A's stumbled to a 12-3 loss in Game 2 as the Seattle Mariners swept their doubleheader Saturday.
