 Tampa Bay and New York meet for the first time since 2018, when the Rays took two of three at Citi Field. Tampa Bay's .213 batting average in interleague games this season is the third-worst mark in MLB (Cin, .192; Min, .193).

 The Mets dropped two of three at home against the Braves over the weekend, being outscored 24-9. New York is scoring an average of 4.56 runs per game against its own division this season but is averaging 5.71 runs per game against the AL East.

 The Rays took four of five games from Thursday to Sunday in Baltimore. Tampa Bay started the season 4-6 as visitors with a 5.82 road ERA. Since then, the Rays are 14-4 on the road and their staff has posted a 3.24 ERA away from Tropicana Field.

A loss Tuesday night didn't change the formula necessary for the Tampa Bay Rays to clinch the American League East title.
As for the New York Mets, their win over the Rays made their postseason equation a little brighter, but not nearly enough to start daydreaming about how the rest of the dominoes in the National League wild-card race might start to fall in their favor.
